What Club Tennis Means To Me
A mini-doc about the President of Club Tennis and what Club Tennis means to UNC Chapel Hill.
Club Tennis has been my family. When I stepped onto Carolina’s campus, I had one thought: “This place is massive.” However, in my back pocket, I had a great piece of advice: “You have to make a big place smaller.” My grandfather gave me that advice, and he couldn’t have been more correct. I joined the team my first semester and haven’t looked back since. This family has taken me across the country, where we have had great wins and tough losses. At the end of the day, tennis was just the medium through which I got to meet incredible people.

I was gifted a stringing machine and started a “dorm hustle.” By providing a desired service, I was able to build customer service skills and brand myself as a reliable option for Club players to get their rackets restrung. It was a learning experience that allowed me to gain skills I will keep for the rest of my life.

Tennis can be a lonely sport, even when surrounded by a fantastic team. The sport itself has taught me how to keep moving forward. If you stay stuck in the past, you can be blinded to what is right in front of you. Losing sucks, but so does missing an opportunity. When tough times fall on your shoulders, take three deep breaths, reset, and keep moving forward.
